Finding your target customer is crucial in every area of marketing. For example, when your billboard advertisement does not reach your target market it will not be successful. Roy H. Williams in his book Wizard of Ads’, on page 25 questions this piece of industry wisdom.

During one of Meadow’s vision and strategy Meetings our executives asked the question, “What are the bad things that billboard companies can do?” They began compiling a list of specific things that Meadow and other billboard companies have done poorly. Then they opened that list up to contribution from all 40 Meadow employees who have a combined total of 650 years of outdoor advertising experience. This list was initially published in a Billboard Insider article, but we wanted our blog readers to see it too.

This year is a big election year, according to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), political campaigns will spend $10-12 billion dollars on advertising. How can the outdoor advertising industry take a big slice of that pie?

A billboard company’s main product is its artwork. If the artwork isn’t good, it’s not relevant how good the contract, the structure, and the service were. The artwork is what gets the client’s business customers. So, we must dedicate ourselves to making good artwork. And we do. But what do you do when your client is determined to put up bad artwork?

Billboards have long been the silent giants of the roadside, commanding attention with their bold visuals and concise messages. But in the age of immersive experiences and hyper-personalized marketing, even these towering titans need a fresh coat of paint. Enter the dynamic duo of AI language models and AI artwork generators: a powerhouse combination poised to revolutionize the way we approach billboard design.

Recently, Meadow Outdoor has been named the 2nd best small business to work for in Oregon by Oregon Business Magazine! This year there were 73 contestants entered and Meadow came out ahead of nearly all of them. 2nd is up one spot from last year in 2023 when Meadow was named 3rd best small business to work for. For the last five years in a row Meadow has come in within the top 15 spots, and the last three years Meadow was in the top 5.

Meadow is committed to being good neighbors to our lessors and the communities we are in, as well as providing a high-quality product for our clients. A large part of both is making sure our billboards are safe and in pristine condition. This includes the laborious task of maintaining every one of our hundreds of billboards, the majority of which are completed by our maintenance and installation crews.

Crazy Horse was a beloved Frontier Village attraction near the park entrance. He came to Meadow’s The Dalles headquarters in 2021. Decades of neglect had cracked and broken his fiberglass body. His many layers of paint were flaking and faded. He needed grooming and a team of handlers to restore him to his former glory.

Meadow has only had a maximum of four salespeople at one time to cover four states. With ongoing opportunities to add new inventory and digital displays, Meadow has grown and therefore decided to add a fifth territory manager to the team.

Chris was given the honor of being inducted into the OAAA Hall of Fame after being nominated by his younger brother, Mike Zukin, Meadow’s current CFO. This award came almost exactly 10 years after Chris and Mike’s late father and founder of the company, Joe Zukin, won the same award. Both Chris’ and Joe’s awards now sit side by side on a shelf in the company’s main conference room.
